Question

Metropolitan Hospital’s Infection Control Committee has identified an outbreak of infection within their large university hospitals. The infection control practitioners have collected and analyzed surveillance data and reviewed charts of patients with fever or positive microbiology cultures. When the outbreak first occurred, they investigated the cluster of cases involved, all cases are believed to have been identified, and commonalities are being identified as well, in hopes of closing in soon on discovering both the reservoir and the means of transmission of the organism from that reservoir.

1.In addition to those activities just described, what else should the infection control practitioner do?

Explanation / Answer

The first and foremost thing that could be taken up is vaccination against the outbreak so that the disease does not spread further.

Basic health and hygiene programs should be organized in addition to spread awareness

Antibiotics screening should also be taken up as it tends to give information on resistance of microbes to particular medication
