Question

In the diagram shown below, a very long straight wire has current 1_1 going upwards. On the right side of the straight wire is a rectangular loop of wire with current I_2 going clockwise as shown. The longer side of the loop has a length of L. The shorter side of the loop has a length of The distance between the long wire and the left side of the loop is c. Calculate the net force of long straight wire on the rectangular loop. The answer will be in terms of I_1, L, mu_0. pi, I_2, c, and a. Also please include the direction of the force.

Explanation / Answer

here I1 and I2 is in same direction and as we know that

the magnatic field on 2 by the 1 B1 = uo I1 / 2 x 3.14 x c

where c 1is distance between both 1 and 2

as we know that the magnatic force F = I ( L x B)

so the magnatic force on 2 ( some part of lenth dl ) by the 1

F21 = I2 ( dl x B1 )

according to fleming left hand rule the direction of force must be left

now put the value of B1

F21 = I2 x dl x [ uo x I1 / 2 x3.14 x c ]

F21 = uo x I1 xI2 x dl / 2 x3.14 x c

so the force on some part of lenth(dl)

F21 / dl = uo x I1x I2 / 2 x 3.14 x c ( Left side )

similarly the magnatic force on 1

F12 / dl = uox I1 x I2 / 2 x 3.14 xc ( right side ) Ans
