Explanation / Answer

Current through E1 is I1 ; that through E2 is I2 ; and through R be I3.

I1 + I2 = I3

from Khirchoff's loop rule:

V1 - I1r - I3R = 0

V2 - I2r - I3R = 0

from the above three eqn we get

I3 = (V1 + V2)/(2R + r)

I3 = (2 + 3)/(2 x 4 + 0.5) = 0.588 A

V(R) = I3xR = 0.588x4 = 2.353 Volts

Hence, V(R) = 2.353 Volts (upto three decimal places)
