Question

Consider the combination of capacitors in the figure below. Find the equivalent single capacitance of the two capacitors in series. MF Redraw the diagram (called diagram 1) with this equivalent capacitance. No file selected. Browse. This answer has not been graded yet. Submit a file with a maximum size of 1 MB. In diagram 1 find the equivalent capacitance of the three capacitors in parallel. Redraw the diagram as a single battery and single capacitor in a loop. No file selected. Browse. This answer has not been graded yet. Submit a file with a maximum size of 1 MB. Compute the charge on the single equivalent capacitor. Returning to diagram 1, compute the charge on each individual capacitor.

Explanation / Answer

Here,

C1 and 8 microF capacitors are in series. Therefore,

1/Ceq = 1/22 + 1/8

Ceq = 22*8/(22+8) = 5.87 miroF

Now , C2 ,Ceq and 4 microF capacitor are parallel.therefore,

Ctotal = 5.87 + 4 + 1.50 = 11.37 microF

since , Q = C*V = 11.37 * 36 = 4.9.32 microC
