A. Observe the experiment. Draw a picture representing the charges on the pipe and on the electroscope before and after Alan touches it with the rod.

B. Explain why the leaf of the electroscope deflects after it was touched with the charged rod.

C. Explain why the leaf goes back to the vertical position after Alan touched the electroscope.

D. What do you need to assume about the structure of the human body in order to explain the observations?

Explanation / Answer

When alon rubd the rod with fur then the rod gains positive charge , it in contact with electroscope so the positive charges transfer from rod to electroscope consisting of two metal plates, acquire same charge so due to repulsion the leaf of the electroscope moves away.

as Alan touches the electroscope the the excess postive charges goes to human body so leaf come to its original position, from this human body is having -ve charge.
