Question

In Fig. 22-32, the four particles form a square of edge lengtha = 5.70 cm and have charges q1 = 8.02nC, q2 = -8.84 nC, q3 =8.77 nC, and q4 = -8.63 nC. What is themagnitude of the net electric field produced by the particles atthe square's center?

Could someone show me how to do this one please?
Much Thanks!

Explanation / Answer

Let us consider a test charge at the center of thesquare. The electricfield due to charge q1 isE1 =kq1/r2 The electricfield due to charge q2 is E2=kq2/r2 The electricfield due to charge q3 is E3=kq3/r2 The electricfield dueto charge q4 isE4 = kq4/r2 The net electricield at the center of the square is               E = E1 +E2 - E3 - E4 Substitute the values, where r = a / 2
