Heyy im new on the site and have to turn in this huge sciencepaper later and i can't figure out an example for how temperatureeffects air density. The first answer i thought of was a hot airballoon but we aren't allowed to use that as and example so imhaving some trouble. hope this was the right place to post this : /                Thanks so much,                       Sydney Heyy im new on the site and have to turn in this huge sciencepaper later and i can't figure out an example for how temperatureeffects air density. Explanation / Answer

An example is present in the atmosphere. The surface of the Earthreceives radiation from the sun which causes it to warm. Then, thesurface warms the layer of air directly above so it becomes lessdense. This difference causes the upper and cooler layer of air tocome down (its heavier) and displace the warmer air below, and thecycle repeats itself. These are called convective currents, and arevery important in weather regulation. Sometimes due to geographicconditions a warmer layer is displaced above a cooler layer causinga phenomenon called thermal inversion. This inversion causes theconvective currents to stop, so the air remains still. This can bea problem in cities where a lot of pollutants are daily released,so the air is not renewed and becomes dangerous for health.. More information of thermal inversion at this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_inversion Hope this helps.
