Physics Topics Applied to Daily Life - 200 Words Required

Instructions: For BOTH A & B, provide a minimum 100 WORDS in a Paragraph structure at a College Sophmore Level applying the concepts to every day life occurances to explain how physics applies in daily life.

a) Rotational Motion of Solid Objects

Physical objects may rotate in addition to their translational motion. We can analyze the rotational motion separately, using rules similar to those in translational motion. We will also encounter conservation laws again, namely conservation of energy (with rotational energy and work now included) and conservation of angular momentum. Newton's Laws will be adapted to spinning objects, as well.

b) Behavior of Fluids

Fluids are composed of countless tiny particles, each of which obeys the physics of objects we have covered so far. But because of their number, we instead examine the characteristics of the particles as a group. These bulk properties include pressure, temperature, and volume. We will also explore three principles that govern the bulk behavior of fluids.

Explanation / Answer

Daily we come across many situation where we can apply physics
a) For example , we need to unscrew an old nut . As it is old we have to apply large torque. If we increase the distance between the nut and the point from where we are applying force then it is easy to unscrew it. as by increasing the distance, the torque will increase because torque= Force*Displacemet .
using hand you can apply a fix amount of force but you can tie a rod or stick to the wrench to increase its length and then try to unscrew the nut, you'll be successful. Problem solved by applying physics!!

b) Fluid friction occurs between fluid that is moving relative to one another. This internal resistance to flow is termed “viscosity”.
If friction is high, more viscous the liquid is and more will be the force of attraction so tiny particle will be tightly coupled and its hard to separate them and that is why we have to examine them as a group. The most obvious answer is the automatic transmission in a car. The torque converter is possible because of fluid friction. and it is fluid friction because of that they excert pressure on each other
