Three Adiabatic reversible expansion In this d Q = 0. Is this true for an irreversible expansion, and why not? PV = C / C From the first law, write the expression for temperature change in terms of volume change. If work is done on the system, what is the direction of temperature change ? If the first P is 4 atm, the first volume 5 liters, and second P is 2 atm, what is the second volume?

Explanation / Answer

the initial volume and pressure are

V1 = 5 liters and P1 = 4 atm

let the final volume and pressure be V2 and P2 = 2 atm

we know that

P1V1 = P2V2

or V2 = (P1V1/P2) = (4 x 5/2) = 10 liters
