Industrial Engineering please
2. You are working in a company in which senior management has decided that expansion of the current production plant is required. Building a new plant with new equipment and new control systems is too expensive. The current plant, when expanded, will contain a mix of new equipment and old equipment, new control systems and old control systems, and new people mixed with the older people that have been working for the company for years. As an engineer, and the only individual who has ever taken a course in risk assessment, you are assigned the task of ensuring that everything will work together (and safely) in the expanded plant. You decide that hazards identification is the first step that must be accomplished. You can’t use all the methods covered in class, so you will have to pick one or two of the methods. What method (methods) will you choose, and explain why you would choose it (or them) and how it/they will be applied.
Explanation / Answer
These are the methods I would will you choose:
1. Psychological hazards such as stress from using equipment without proper training or instructions, overwork, or being coerced into using faulty equipment which carries a risk of injury. This because all the old and new men would definitely not be having the full details and hazard-related information.
2. HAZOP Study: A Hazop study is completed by the team which includes the designers, safety representatives and a number of members with expertise in a range of related fields. The team also includes individuals who have knowledge of operating similar equipment and plant. This will cover up all the listed new and old machines.
