Question

Steam enters an adiabatic turbine at 120 bar, 500oC. At the exit, the pressure and quality are 50 kPa and 0.68, respectively. Determine the power (kW) produced by the turbine if the mass flow rate is 0.97 kg/s

Correct Answer:

1,396.30

Explanation / Answer

At inlet :

P1 = 120 bar

T1 = 500 C

So from steam tables..we get :

h1 = 3349.63 kJ / kg

At outlet,

P2 = 50 kPa

x2 = 0.68

from steam charts, we get :

h2 = 1908.2509 kJ / kg

So, power = m* ( h1 - h2) = 0.97 * (3349.63 - 1908.25)

= 1398.14 kJ / kg

The values are read from the charts...so there can be slight difference in the result..

So your answer is approx . 1398 kJ / kg
