An electron is a subatomic particle (m-9xl0 kg) that is subjected to electrie forces. An electron moving in the +x direction accelerates from an initial velocity 5.56x10' m/s to a final velocity 2.07x10 m's while traveling a distance of 0.037 m. The e acceleration is due to two electric forces parallel to the x axis: F 7.87x10" N and Fa which points in the -x direction. Find the magnitude of the net force Fiet acting on the electron AND the electrie force Fa lectron's

Explanation / Answer

Given that,

u = 5.56*10^5 m/s

v = 2.07*10^6 m/s

d1 = 0.037 m

F1 = 7.87*10^(-17) N

From kinematic equation,

v^2 - u^2 = 2as

(2.07*10^6)^2 - (5.56*10^5)^2 = 2*a*0.037

acceleration, a = 5.37*10^13 m/s^2

Net force,

Fnet = ma

Fnet = 9.1*10^(-31) * 5.37*10^13

Fnet = 4.88*10^(-17) N

(b)

Fnet = F1 + F2

so, F2 = Fnet - F1

F2 = 4.88*10^(-17) - 7.87*10^(-17)

F2 = -2.99*10^(-17) N
