Explanation / Answer

Part a) & b)

V3=Q3/C3 = (18*10^-6)/(8.0*10^-6) = 2.0 V

Since Q3 & Q4 are in parallel combination,

V34 =V4 = V3 = 2.0V

Q4 = C4*V4 = (16*10^-6)*(2.0) = 32*10^-6 = 32 µC

C34=C3+C4 = 8.0 µF + 16.0 µF = 24 µF

Q34 = V34*C34= (2.0)*(24 µF) = 48 µC

C12=C1+C2 = 8.0 µF + 16.0 µF = 24 µF

Since C34 & C12 are in series combination,

Q12 = Q34 = 48 µC

V12= Q12/C12= (48 µF)*(24 µF) = 2.0V

Thus,

V1 = V2 = V12 = = 2.0V

Q1 = C1*V1 = (8*10^-6)*(2.0) = 16 µC

Q2 = C2*V2 = (16*10^-6)*(2.0) = 32 µC

Part c)

Vab = V12 + V34 = 2.0V +2.0V = 4.0 V
