Animal Reproduction Name: Dalila ten Section: 2L List five factors that affect reproduction in domestic species (0.5 pts, 0.1 pts each) a. C. d. Write in the name of the organs that correspond with the hormones of the reproductive axis (1 pt, 0.3 pts each) 2. Reproductive Axis Gonadotropic releasing hormone (GnRH) Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Fallicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone Fill in the following chart below by classifying the following species according to their age at puberty, estrus cycle frequency, season of the year, length of estrous cycle, and gestation length (2.5 pts, 0.1 pt each blank). 3. Classification Length of Estrous Cycle (days) Gestation SpeciesAge of (according to Season of the Pubertyestrus cycle Year frequency) Length Equine Ovine Bovine Porcine CanineExplanation / Answer
Answer=
1]Five factors that affect the reproduction in domestic species are as follows:
a]Temperature-ambient temp.can also be a proximate factor ,since warmer temp. could trigger reproductive activity, too high temperatures could limit reproductive activity.
b]Humidity
c] Amount
d]Distribution of rainfall , solar radiation, photoperiod =it is well known that due to inclination of earths rotation axis & earths translation along its orbit the duration of daylight vary along the year.and such variations are more marked nearere the poles than near the equator.
some species such as sheep ,goat, deer are known as short day breeders because their breeding season occurs mainly when days are getting shorter.
Such a species normally have gestation lenghts of -5-6 months.
thus their offspring are generally born in spring.
other species having either short gestation lengths (1-2 months )or long gestation lengths are long day breeders & breed in late winter or springwith their offspring also being born mainly in spring.
e]nutrition=is very important factor. It can act not only as a paramount factor, but as a proximate factor as well in many cases.
if food availability falls below a a threshold that may vary according to species & populations ,an animal will not breed
f]productive system managment
g]Social intyeractions among individualswithin same population
h] predator prey interaction
