Question

For the following Vertical Profiles of Temperature Graphs, Explain what happens in each graph? (in other words translate the graphs into a short answer essay)

ODissolved O, (mg•L-1) •Temperature (c) 10 15 20 25 ODissolved 0, (mg•L-1) Temperature ("C) 10 15 20 25 30 .00 Epilimnion Thermocline Depth (m) SBN 8o N on Ando o ovo un OTCHOH-CHORROR Metalimnion | Depth (m) SN8 o mga Bandao ono una un OTORO 50 100 150 ......0, Saturation (%) 50 100 150 ***.0, Saturation (%) Typical mid-summer temperature and oxygen profile Fall overturn in progress

Explanation / Answer

In the above graph given here, the level of dissolved oxygen and the temperature with respect to the depth of the lake is given in different season a. graph 1 Is in the season of typical mid summer

b. while the second graph is representing the profile of the temp. and the O2 saturation level in fall overturn process (the lake water to mix from top to bottom).

a. In this graph it is clearly evident that the in the hypolimnion the temperature is the lowest that increases with decreasing depth that is in increasing oreder from the metalimnion to epilimnion.

On the same time the oxygen saturation level also increases from the hypolimnion to the metalimnion and maximum in the epilimnion in the season of midsummer.

b. In another graph, it is clearly evident that the temperature is same from the lowest layer of the lake to the upper layer of the lake. while the oxygen dissolved or saturation level is least in the hypolimnion, but it is constant from the metalimnion to the epilimnion layer of the lake.
