a) 6 and 12 are in parallel combination, their effective resistance will be= 12/3 = 4

Equivalent resistance of 4 and 8= 8/3 = 2.667

So total resistance between a and b = 4 + 2.667+5 = 11.667 apprx

b) current through circuit = 44.7/11.667=3.83 A apprx

Current through 8= 3.83 x 4/(12)==1.277 A apprx
