Constants Part A An electromagnet produces a magnetic field of 0500 T in a cylindrical region of radius 2.70 cm between its poles. A straight wire carrying a current of 11.0 A passes through the center of this region and is perpendicular to both the axis of the cylindrical region and the magnetic field What magnitude of force is exerted on the wire? -??? Explanation / Answer

Magnetic force is given by:

F = i*LxB

F = i*L*B*sin theta

Using given values:

i = 11 Amp

B = 0.500 T

Since the wire is perpendicular to B, So theta = 90 deg

sin 90 deg = 1

L = length of wire in magnetic field = 2*r = 2*2.70*10^-2 = 0.054 m

Now

F = 11*0.054*0.500*1

F = 0.297 N
