b) If the block had an initial velcoity, vb then

mcvc + mbvb = (mc + mb ) vf

where vc - velocity of clay, vb - velocity of block.

Remember, I have used c for clay, b for block. Please be careful the question gives mass of clay as m1 and mass of block as m2.

so, vf =   mcvc + mbvb / mc + mb

c) Using the above expression , we have

vf = 0.31*21 + 3.4*3.2 / 0.31 + 3.4

vf = 4.687 m/s
