He had no fever, an elevated WBC, and his reflexes and neurological responses were normal. He was treated with Tylenol and a muscle relaxant. When symptoms worsened, he was admitted to the hospital with a preliminary diagnosis of pyelonephritis or y proved these incorrect. Over the next several days, he became increasingly agitated and combative, of blurred vision and an inability to move his legs. He now exhibited a low-grade fever, high blood pressure and continued WBC elevation. The following diagnostic procedures were performed, but no conclusive abnormalities were found: lumbar punctures for CSF analyses, CT scan of head. EEG, and MRI As he continued to deteriorate, his oral secretions increased markedly, and he developed subnormal body temperature, blood pressure, ventilation rate and heart rate.
