Question

Analyze the program in Figure 2. The program controls three lights: L1, L2, and L3.

Assume SW closes and T4:1 is enabled. Which of the lights, if any, are on while T4:1 is timing?

Again, assume SW is closed. When T4:1 is done timing it enables T4:2 to start timing. Which light(s) are on while T4:2 is timing?

All the lights are off when T4:3/DN = 1. Again, assuming SW is closed, how long from the time T4:3/DN = 1 until T4:3 resets?

As long as SW is closed, will the timing cycle repeat?

Explanation / Answer

1. Assuming that the SW I:1/0 is closed and T4:1 is timing, the rung 004 will be activated thereby only O:2/0 and thus light L1 will be activated.

2. Similarly When T4:2 is timing, the rung 005:will be activated thus light L2 will be On.

3. If the switch is closed again once the T4:3/DN = 1, the timer T4:4 and T4:1 will be timing simultaneously and thus after 1s for T4:1 and 1s for T4:2, T4:3 will be timing again, this after 2s it will be reset.

4. If the switch is continuously closed, it will not repeat the cycle because, once the T4:4/DN is set to 1 the cycle will stop.
