Question
In the figure below, point A (marked by a circle) is the top of a small object (indicated by an arrow). Near it is a concave lens, as shown. The focal points of the lens are marked by black dots. a. Using a ray diagram, shown where an image of point A would be formed. b. If the focal length of the lens is 8 cm and the object is 6 cm from the lens, where will the image be? c. If the object is 1 cm tall, how tall will the image be? d. Will the image created by the lens be real or virtual? e. Where will you have to be to see the image? #2 at this link---------->http://astro1.panet.utoledo.edu/~kshan/phys2080/pdf/2080HW6_S2011.pdfExplanation / Answer
f = -8 cm
u = -6 cm
So, 1 / v - 1 / u = 1 / f
So, v = -3.42 cm
Hi / Ho = v / u
So, Hi = 3.42 / 6 * 1 = 0.57 cm
So,
b) Image will be at 3.42 cm infront of the lens...i.e on the side of the object
c) 0.57 cm
d) Virtual
e) You will have to look from the other side...i.e right side...inside the lens to view the virtual image
a) Cant draw ray diagram here...but can explain the process if you wish!!!
