Question
I'm studying for a test, but am having trouble with these two problems from class. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
#1) In her biology class, Chris examines an insect wing under acompound microscope that has an objective lens with a focal lengthof 0.70 cm, an eyepiece with a focal length of 3.0 cm, and a lensseparation distance of 16.00 cm. Chris has a near point distance of22.5 cm. What is the approximate angular magnification of themicroscope as Chris views the insect wing?
The correct answer is -140.
#2) The focal lengths of the objective and eyepiece in a compound microscope are 10 mm and 50 mm respectively. The image formed by the objective is 20 cm from it and the final image is 25 cm from the eye. What is the total magnification?
The correct answer is -100.
I figured 25 = N, and 20 cm = do. From here I found di and then plugged it back into the compound microscope equation. Is this wrong?
