Question
I've answered the firs two parts of the question, but cannot answer the last part asking about resistive force.A boy of mass 34.4 kg, jumps off a diving platform 1.81 m high. He lands in the water and goes under a distance 1.68 m, before he stops.
In the previous parts, I have found that:
His potential energy on the diving board is 1180 J, and his speed at which he hits the water it 5.96 m/s.
What is the magnitude of the resistive force of the water on the boy? (in Newtons)
Any help is much appreciated -- thank you. :)
Explanation / Answer
energy = F*distance 1/2 * 34.4*5.96^2 + 34.4*9.8*1.68 = F*1.68 F = 700.79 N
