Question

Hey I need some help with the problems for my Physics Homework. I'm completely lost! The problem is "Suppose that while moving into an apartment you move a refrigerator into place by sliding it across the floor. The refrigerator weighs 1490 N and the coefficient of static friction between the floor and the refrigerator is 0.46. What is the least force you could exert on the refrigerator to move it?" Like I said I'm totally lost so if someone could just tell me what are the steps I need to take ie formulas etc I need to apply to get the answers to this problem I'd really appreciate it!

Explanation / Answer

If the refrigerator weights 1365 and you are not exerting any vertical force on it, then the normal force is also 1365N. so Fn=1365 Fsf = Static frictional force = (coefficient of static friction) * (Normal force) So the least for you could exert to move it is equal to the Fsf.
