Apology of Socrates, by Plato, is the Socratic dialogue that presents the speech of legal self-defence, which Socrates presented at his trial for impiety and corruption, in 399 BC. Socrates has been considered one of the most powerful philosophers till date, as his influence still continues, but his trial and death at the hands of the Athenian democracy is considered to be the founding myth of the academic discipline of philosophy. The irony in his death was that , after the jury sentencing him to death, Socrates calmly delivered his final public words, a speculation about what the future might hold. He expresseed a continued confidence in the power of reason, that he exhibited . Socrates was accused with impiety and corruption against the people and the city. Thus, it was an irony , that a person who believed in pure logic and rational thinking was executed without any.
