Question
Please answer the following questions, these questions are based on chapter 8 of "Microelectronic Circuits by Sedra & Smith (7th edition)":
1. Discuss the design philosophy of integrated circuits and how it differs from that of the discrete circuit you learned in chapters 5 and 6 and 7.
2. Discuss the present trend of MOS and BJT technologies and compare the characteristics of MOSFET and BJT. Explain why CMOS circuits are most widely used in microelectronics fabrication?
3. In integrated circuits why we prefer to use current sources.
4. Compare the characteristics of the different BJT current sources.
5. In integrated circuits why we use active loads instead of using resistive loads.
6. What is cascode amplifier and what are its advantages over that of CS amplifier.
7. What is folded cascode amplifier?
Explanation / Answer
Answer 3
We prefer current source in integrated circuits because they are used in the form of current mirror which doesnot contains register due to which power dissipation is very less and also it needs smaller area in fabrication
