Question

Part A              If the magnetic force exerted on this wire per meter is 3.3 Part A              If the magnetic force exerted on this wire per meter is 3.3 The long, thin wire shown in the figure (Figure 1) is in a region of constant magnetic field B ? . The wire carries a current of 6.2A and is oriented at an angle of 7.5 ? to the direction of the magnetic field. Part A If the magnetic force exerted on this wire per meter is 3.3 times 10?2N , what is the magnitude of the magnetic field? At what angle will the force exerted on the wire per meter be equal to 1.6 times 10?2N ?

Explanation / Answer

A) F = B*i*L*sin(theta)

F/L = B*i*sin(7.5)

===> B = (F/L)/i*sin(7.5) = 3.3*10^-2/(6.2*sin(7.5)) = 4.08*10^-2 T = 40.8 m T

B)

F = B*i*L*sin(theta)

theta = sin^-1( (F/L) / B*i )

= sin^-1(1.6*10^-2/(4.078*10^-2*6.2))

= 3.63 degrees
