Question

The diagram represents a multiflash photograph of an object moving along a horizontal surface. The positions indicated by the dots in the diagram are separated by equal time intervals of 1s. The first flash occurred just as the object started to move and the last just as it came to rest. (a) Draw an x-t graph for the motion represented in the diagram. (b) Which of the following five graphs best represents the object's velocity as a function of time? Briefly explain your answer. Calculate and label the minimum and maximum on the graph you chose. (c) Carefully describe the motion in graph 4 of part (b).

Explanation / Answer

(b)It is 2,because velocity is the rate of change of displacment and that is basically the slope of the graph above

the velocity or the slope increases upto some time, remains constant for some more time and then starts to decrease.

Why not 1, because it take slot of time to make the velocity constant than the time take to come to a halt. This can be seen from the question itself as the distance between the points. Initially the points were very near and then come to a constant distance between them and at last come near again, but quickly so answer is 2 for question (b).

(c) in graph 4, the body goes in increasing velocity but constant acceleration in one direction for some time and then the velocity becomes 0(comes to a halt) reverses its direction and changes its velocity with a constant acceleration again to come to a halt at last.
