Question
I need to explain this?
Imagine you have become head of a major funding agency that disburses funding to researchers pursuing work in environmental science. You must give your staff several priorities to determine what types of scientific research to fund. What environmental problems would you most like to see addressed with research? Describe the research you think would need to be completed so that workable solutions to these problems can be developed. Would more than science be needed to develop sustainable solutions?
Explanation / Answer
Yes, funding of the research projects always depends on the importance of the research topic as well as its effectiveness. Nowdays environmental isues are drawing attention of the researchers all over the globe. Environment itself is a vast subject with so many sub-0rdinates of it. If I am the one who decides which sector to be funded most I think it will be the 'Clean Drinking Water'.
Now days availibility of clean drinking water is a big concern. We can get drinking water by 3 ways. 1- groundwater, 2- river water and 3- recycled water. The whole Africa continent is suffering from problems related to drinking water. In last couple of months we have seen severe drought in central India. So research works related to safe drinking water must get funded properly.
Now hunt for drinking water, itself is a large topic. Properly treated river water is being used in so many countries for several years. Groundwater related research is really a less common thing. To do a proper research on groundwater several stages had to be followed.
First the research area, its weather, climate, local geology, demograohy all has to be properly calculated and reported. Then the problems related to the groundwater has to be sort out like presence of aquifer if it is present then its depth, porosity permeability, transmissivity etc... Then how much water can be taken up, its distribution among local people, whether its sufficient or not, is ther any kind of anomaly with the natural elements which can cause deseases etc all have to be summed up.
As a research worker its someones job to make a report on a specific topic which can be usefull for the authorities to solve a problem. So development of sustainable solutions is not in the researcher's hand. He can provide all the necessarry information but the development of the programme is in the hand of respective authorities.
