How many glucose molecules are needed in order to run 1 mile?
Maple syrup is mostly glucose, and 1 mole of glucose weighs 180 grams (180 g/1 mole). Assuming that maple syrup 100% glucose, how many grams of maple syrup does it take to run a mile?
If one gram of maple syrup is equivalent to 0.09 tablespoons of maple syrup, how many tablespoons of syrup does it take to run 1 mile?
Explanation / Answer
ok..lets answer this ..we have to make some assumtions for this.We should assume that the person is running on flat surface.If we consuder that energy is obtained only through aerobic respiration then,
1 molecule of glucose yields 30 ATPs .1 molecule of ATP gives 10-21 calories.And a person will need 100 calories to run 1 mile if we ignore gender, speed, weight etc.
So for burning 100 calories we need 1023 ATP.Now 1 molecule gives 30 ATP then for 1023 ATP we need to divide it by 30.Which is 3.33 * 1021 glucose molecules.
1 mol of glucose is 180 grams.here 1 mole of substance is having 6*1023 molecules then 3.33 * 1021 will be how many moles?
for this
1 moles = 6*1023 molecules
x = 3.33 * 1021molecules
x= 3.33 * 1021/ 6*1023 molecules
= 0.06 moles
Now 1 mole = 180 grams
0.06 = x
x= 180* 0.06 = 10.8 grams
Again 1 gram = 0.09 TBSPS
10.8 grams = x
x= 10.8 * 0.09 = 0.97 tablespoons.
