Question

Please clarify--I asked this question earlier and got the response of e) political pressure. Can someone please double check this. Why would it not be a) average mouse lifespan? I thought that epidemiological studies only dealt with human lives so why would the average life of a mouse be a concern? Please help me figure this out!

Which of the following might NOT be a concern when undertaking an epidemiological study and why?

a) average mouse lifespan

b) confounding factors

c) emigration/immigration

d) ethics in assessing participation

e) political pressure

Explanation / Answer

Option e is the correct answer. Although epidemiological study dealt with human lives, average mouse lifespan is a concern in epidemiological study because mouse model can be used for wide variety of human biological and disease research and thus, the average mouse life span can be compared with human lifespan due to similarity in mouse and human physiology. Human participation is not always possible in epidemiological study and therefore mouse are used as a model for human epidemiological study and the results are correlated with human lives.
