Explanation / Answer

1. Polar ice can trap contaminants for long periods of time. Then after the ice can release them into the environment as the ice melts. So now Arctic is becoming as the "chemical sink of the globe" due to this phenomenon. High levels of chlorinated paraffins, unrestricted chemicals used in paints, sealants, leather and rubber processing, has been found in many seals, walruses and beluga whales and many types of birds and fishes. So these contaminents are mixed with ocean by trapped into ice.  Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are descoverd in the breast milk of women in Arctic Canada area by the above event.
