Please whatch the following video and answer the following question http://blog.ted.com/2013/07/11/myths-and-misconceptions-about-evolution-a-ted-ed-lesson-about-the-subtleties/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
1. Do you think you had a solid understanding of the theory of evolution prior to starting the course and before watching the TED Talk video? Were any of the misconceptions of evolution presented in the video surprising to you? Which ones?
2. What is your own personal experience with learning about evolution? Were you taught about evolutionary theory in school? At what grade level?
3. What do you think it means to be human?
4. Tell me one question or idea regarding evolution, physical anthropology or human biology that you have been curious about, and that you hope to have answered this semester.
Explanation / Answer
1. Well, I have basic understanding of the theory of evolution as shown for example of Giraffe in the TED talk video. In this video, the conclusion surpised me which was "evolution proceeds blindly". I think nature does not create things blindly. Nature must operate things with a plan but we are unable to understand it. Example of this is that in the present world, we can find a creature from a microscopic level to giant megascopic level. Both are living together in same environment.
2. According to me evolution is fight against the struggle. It could be of genetic level, physical level, habitat and social level. I agree with the theory of natural selection and survival of the fittest which I had tought in my secondary school. I believe in nature because it always give chance to every species to grow and expand their wings.
3. Evolution for human is only related to deveolpment and survival of thier own species rather than think about to preserve habitats of other animals. Example of this activity is extinction of many animal species such as African black Rhinoceros, Tasmanian Tiger, Javan Tiger etc. Human is continuosly interrupting and changing the natural climate which have direct effect on the living organisms particularly on the wild life. But a group of people think to sustain the natural climate and maintain the wild life. I think human has got brain through evolution which is the biggest gift for us. And we should use it judiciary without harming the present wild life and their natural climate.
4. My question is about the "what were the factors which help to evolve and develop the human brain rathertah any other species. What were the factors or first incident which encourage human to live in societies and follow the societal cultures. Presently, the human brains is the most important gift of nature to human which evolve through time and continuosly will evolve in the future. The era of mammals had come after the era of reptiles (a period of dinosaurs). I will try to answer the factors which help human to develop themselves over reptiles.
