Question
Please check my work. I believe I got the differiential equation down, but I do not know how to determine how much koolade powder is in the tank when the take is full. Do I go by the volume 500 gal or 200? thank you. 8. A 500 gallon tank initially contains 200 gallons of water with 80 ounces of Kool-ade powder in it. A solution containing 6 ounces of kool-ade power gallon flows into the tank at 15 gallons per minute. The tank is well mixed and liquid is pumped out at a rate of 10 gallons per minute. State a differential equation that would model this problem that you could use to find a function y for the amount of koolade powder in the tank at time t. Solve the differential equation and determine how much koolade powder is in the tank when the tank is full.Explanation / Answer
Initially the tank contains 200 galons.
Capacity =500 galons.
Incoming rate = 15 galons/minute
and outgoing is 10 galons/minute
Net fill up per minute = 5 galons
Hence for 200 galons to become 500 galons time required = 300/5 = 60 minutes
When t=60 minutes the tank is full.
Hence substitute t =60 in the solution to get the answer.
