•Three Gorges Dam is the world’s largest hydroelectric project in Beijing.The dam has been plagued floating archipelagoes of garbage and landslides on the banks along the vast expanse of still water on the Yangtze River

•Aral sea:In 1960s the Soviet government decided to divert rivers so that they could irrigate the desert region to improve agriculture. Then the water level in the Aral Sea started decreasing drastically from the 1960s onward. It was the fourth largest lake in the world once. The eastern basin of the aral sea is completely dry now.

• Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository is to be a deep geological repository storage facility in Yucca Mountain for spent nuclear fuel in the United States.It is in a desert location which is far from population.

•Biomagnification means the increase of contaminated substances in the food chains which arise from intoxicated or contaminated environments. The contaminants include mercury, arsenic, pesticides like DDT.
