Question
Foot Length. Use a ruler to measure your foot length in inches. Measure from the back of your foot to the end of your big toe - do this while standing on the ruler (similar to how they measure children's shoe size). Record the length of your foot in inches and indicate your shoe size (I will use these numbers to come up with a new regression equation). For now, use the equation below to predict your shoe size - is the equation accurate?
MEN: S = 3L - 23 WOMEN: S = 3L - 20 where L = foot length in inches, S = Shoe Size.
Explanation / Answer
My foot length = 10.5 inches, so, L = 10.5 inches
Using the regression line S = 3L - 23, we have
S = 3 x 10.5 - 23
= 31.5 - 23
= 8.5
Estimated shoe size is 8.5
My actual shoe size is 9 which is appoximated to 8.5.
The eqiuation is almost accurate.
