Concepts: Describe the atmosphere of Mars today. Why is liquid water not stable on the surface of Mars today? What is the history of Mars' magnetic field? What evidence do we have about Mars' past magnetic field? What is the history of Mars' atmosphere? What evidence do we have that Mars' atmosphere has changed in the past? How is the past history of Mars' magnetic field related to changes in the atmosphere9? Why does Mars have seasons? Compare the seasons on Mars to those on Earth? Compare the northern and southern polar caps of Mars in terms of size and composition: how is this related to the seasons on Mars? Contrast the northern and southern hemispheres of Mars (not including the polar ice caps) Compare/contrast valley networks and outflow channels - what do they look like, where are they found, how old are they, and how did they form? What evidence for past liquid water on Mars has been found from orbital images? What evidence for past liquid water on Mars has been found from orbital spectroscopy? How does the surface composition of Mars compare to the history of the atmosphere? What evidence have the MER/MSL rovers found for past liquid water on Mars? What evidence for ground ice on Mars was found by the Phoenix Lander? What evidence is there for recent water activity on Mars? What were the experiments used by the Viking landers to look for life on Mars, and what were the results? How can the results of the Viking biology experiments be explained using what we now know about the chemistry of the soils on Mars? What evidence is there for the presence of fossilized life in the meteorite ALH84001? Why is this evidence in doubt?

Explanation / Answer

1)The atmosphere of Mars today

Mars does not protect the planet from the Sun’s radiation nor does it do much to retain heat at the surface because the atmosphere of Mars is 1% less than that of the Earth

It consists of 95% carbon dioxide, 3% nitrogen, 1.6% argon, and small amounts of oxygen, water vapor, and other gases that are filled with small particles of dust. And it is called the Red planet.

2) why is liquid water not stable on atmosphere of mars today

Because of the low pressure and low temperatures water is not allowed to be stable in the liquid phase. Therefore, water on Mars is as ice on the surface and as vapor in the atmosphere.

3) what is the history of mars magnetic field. What is the evidence

The planet may once had a global magnetic field that is generated by an internal dynamo. Evidence suggests that alternating polarity reversals of its dipole field have occurred in the past, or flipped, several times in its early days as conditions in the mantle and core of the planet changed.Leaving only faint traces of its magnetic past.

4) what is the history of mars atmosphere? What is the evidence do we have that the mar's atmosphere has changed in the past

The ancient surface environment of Mars had liquid water and may be suitable for microbial life. But we cannot tell that this indicates the presence of life.Strongest evidence is that water coursed through them as recently as several years ago.

5) Why does mars have seasons similar to the earth.

All the four seasons occur on Mars as that of the Earth because Mars has a more eccentric orbit than Earth. But the lenght of the seasons are not as same as the Earth since the year is longer on the planet, the axial tilt is different.Seasons like winter,Spring, summe.
