Question
Assignment - 02 - Law of Large Numbers I need each of you to toss a coin 4 times and record the number of heads and tails observed. Answer the following questions. 1. What do you expect to observe before tossing the coin 4 times? 2. What did you actually observe? 3. What do you expect the observed results to be for the class as a whole? 4. How do you think the individual observations taken as a category will compare to the observed results for the class as a whole? 5. What do you conclude regarding this exercise and the Law of Large Numbers?
Explanation / Answer
1. What do you expect to observe before tossing the coin 4 times?
As, probability of heads and tails of tossing a fair coin are equal. We expect 2 heads and 2 tails as the outcome of tossing a coin 4 times
2. What did you actually observe?
I had observed 3 heads and 1 tail.
3. What do you expect the observed results to be for the class as a whole?
I expect for the class as a whole to be equal number of heads and tails as the outcome.
4. How do you think the individual observations taken as a category will compare to the observed results for the class as a whole?
The outcome for individual observations taken as a category may differ from the the observed results for the class as a whole. Like, individually we got the outcome as 3 heads and 1 tail but the class as a whole may have equal number of heads and tails as the outcome.
5. What do you conclude regarding this exercise and the Law of Large Numbers?
We conclude that the average of the results obtained from a large number of trials should be close to the expected value.
