Explanation / Answer

The interview that i watched on You Tube was an interview with Jack Welch (former CEO of GE) that was conducted by the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

The interview was very informative and Jack Welch gave powerful insights regarding leadership strategies and how a good leader can transform a organization by leveraging its employees. In the interview, Mr. Welch shares with the MBA students at Stanford his experience at GE, his views on managing an organization and what the students should focus on to further their careers and contribute meaningfully to the organization.

In this interview used a very good strategy of starting the interview with a discussion on Jack's latest book and then a discussion on his autobiography. This set the tone for the rest of the interview and a kind of rapport was established with Jack. This ensured that Jack was forthcoming in the interview on most of the topics covered. In terms of strategies that did not work, the interviewer had briefly touched on the topic of layoffs in GE under Welch's leadership. This was slightly rude as the interviewer was being judgmental and trying to make a point that GE could have done away with the layoffs. This was a bad strategy as the interviewer had touched upon a sensitive topic.
