Question

Please Please Please

g company has been hired to evaluate a new charter school. The charter school claims to use innovative teaching methods to improve student learning. Parents from the local public school apply to have their children admitted to the charter school. At the end of the school year the consulting company gave each student in the public school an achievement test. The average test score for public school students is 95 points. Students at the charter school took the same test and achieved an average score of 102 points. The consulting company concludes that the difference in scores is statistically significant, validating the charter school's teaching methods. Do you believe the consulting company's conclusion? Please explain, including any suggestions you have for how the evaluation is performed.

Explanation / Answer

No , can’t believe the company’s conclusion.

Only based on difference in average score we cannot come to a conclusion about the significance of difference

We need sample sizes for two set of observation ( public school and charter school students who sit for two tests.)

And also standard deviation for two sets of observation

Then we shall do two sample t test

We can perform z test if sample sizes > 30 amd population standard deviation are known
