Let x represent the price of the calculator and   let   y   represent the priceof the battery x + y = 21         and   x = y + 20   so, if we substitute for x in the first equation we get y + 20 + y = 21     thus, 2y + 20 =21    if we subtract 20 from both sides, 2y = 1     now we divide both sides by2    and we get    y =0.5   tus x = 20.5 Hence the price of the calculator is $ 20.50 and theprice of the battery is $0.50 hope this helps
