Question
Consider carrying our another set of experiments to find the relationship between Reynolds number and drag coefficient. Assume you have access to various spheres and a sub-some wind tunnel (size 4m times 4m, max, velocity - 280 m/s). The experiment will be setup as indicated in Fig. 1. Answer the following questions: [Make necessary and appropriate assumptions where required.] 1. List and draw the tools required to perform the experiment to find the C vg Re 2. Derive an expression for the drag force for the ease shown in Fig l. 3. List the steps required to perform this experiment.Explanation / Answer
Velocity upstream can be made zero
So Preasure head P/ (rho*g) = deltah = V^2/ 2g which is velocity of air in wind tunnel
Now for the drag coefficient
C(drag) = 2* Drag force / ( rho* V^2 * (pi*D^2/4))
Drag Force = K*x*sin(Theta) Where x is the deformation from natural length , K is spring stiffness and Theta is Angle measured.
Tools needed, = Pressure guage for Measuring head, Speed of air in wind tunnel , Re = rho* V * D / mu
