Question
Could anyone help me for these two problems???
The deviation from the mean for a data point is the difference between that data point and the sample mean. For a sample of size n = 2, the first deviation from the mean is given as 1. What is the second deviation from the mean? A sample of size n = 3 has mean x = 0. The squared deviations of the first observation and the second observation from the mean are 1 and 1 respectively. If the sum of squared deviations is sigma_i = 1^3 (x_i - x)^2 = 6, what is the value of the third data point x_3?Explanation / Answer
3) the second deviation should be -1, as their average must be 0 as they are simple deviations.
4)
as mean (xbar)=0
hence sum of square of deviation =6 (given)
12+12+x32=6
x32 =6-1-1=4
hence x3=+/-2
