My healthcare organization uses EPIC for support from patients admission to discharge. The EPIC systems was developed to support the hospital staff performance to minimize staff accidents and checks and balances. The systems was designed by IT services and developed and upgraded by healthcare professionals, This system is design with alerts, reminders, diagnostic assistance, therapy recommendation and pharmacy protocols and dosage. Each department relies on the support system to identify mistakes or errors. For example, the lab department gets a notification from the nurse. The phlebotomist draws the lab. The phlebotomist enters the blood is drawn. If the technician does not process the blood within an appropriate time frame, alerts are given. This alert is in place so that the data is accurate and the patient can be treated appropriately. This may not seem so important, unless you are the patient and this could cause a fatal mistake in your care. Checks and balances will always need to be in place to be successful in the health care field. Taking time out to ensure safety is very important. Keeping health care charges as low as possible is very important. Each alert is setup to minimize time of recovery and cost of inpatient and outpatient services. Health care professionals and management depend on the support care system to help them perform their complex duties. These licenses professionals depend on their company to have protocols designed to help them perform.
