How is our decision making impacted by our biases? Biases are personal, and we tend to make decisions from our own, past experiences. They aren't necessarily logical, and can be riddled with mistakes. There is constantly a conflict with logic and intuition In addition, our biases can be at times based on what we expect the outcome to be, like in the example with the national security analysts. While the data and information that came in and was tracked, there was still an assumption that the group that did it before, must have done it again. Despite the fact that there were seasoned analysts on the team, there was one person who got the exercise correct, and that was the novice. He didn't have as much experience and perhaps less confirmation bias.Explanation / Answer
Decision making and bias - I agree to the answer provided here. Our decision making is impacted by biases that we have based of common assumptions or past experiences that we have. This vary from individual to individual based on the background or experiences of the person.
Data mining for best solution - I agree to the statement that data mining can give better solution. If we have a dataset available, which shows the relationship of different variables to the outcome of the event. This data set can be used to find out the ideal solution. A simple example we can take is design of public transportation system. If we have the travel data of all the citizens in a city, then we can identify the most travelled corridors and timing and hence, this data can be used to design a rapid transit corridor such as metro rail.
