Question

I understand how to get the answer for Mymathlab we divide by h. What I don't get is in the first part of the problem is how I am missing the +12h and +h^2.

Thanks for the help. It has been a few good semesters jump missing something dumb.

I asked another student from my class and not sure either.

Please show the appropriate steps needed.

Explanation / Answer

(2+h)^3 is not equal to 8 + h^3

(a+b)^3 = a^3 + b^3 + 3a^b + 3 ab^2

= 8 + h^3 + 12 h + 6h^2

Now

[(2+h)^3 - 10(2+h) ] - [2^3 - 10(2)]

= 8 + h^3 + 12 h + 6h^2 -20 - 10 h -8 + 20

= h^3 +6h^2 + 2 h
