What is needed is a solution for this ethical dilema stated in each of the scenarios with the asked information.

You will choose an ethical dilemma scenario and then following the process listed below for helping to solve ethical dilemmas, write out the process (listing stakeholders, etc) using the facts in the scenario. Scenario 1: Going Public

•Suppose you are a member of a team working on a computer-controlled crash avoidance system for automobiles. You think the system has a flaw that could endanger people. The project manager does not seem concerned and expects to announce completion of the project soon. What should you do?

Scenario 2: A Test Plan

•A team of programmers is developing a communications system for firefighters to use when fighting a fire. Firefighters will be able to communicate with each other, with supervisors near the scene, and with other emergency personnel. The programmers will test the system in a field near the company office.

Scenario 1 -

People affected - Drivers, occupants and other on the road. Public at large. Lawmaker authorities, insurance companies, hospitals.

Risks - Crashes, casualties, injuries, litigations, damages, fines, monetary losses, jail term

Benefits - None if the issue remains as it is. Only the company will save money and time on re examination.

Actions - The part with the flaw should eb reexamined for performance and should be cleared only when found satisfactory. If not, it shsould be replaced with more efficient device.

The automaker should take reponsibility of well being and safety of its customers on the road and double check its products for safety and reliability before they come out on the road. The cutomers have a right to be safe and secure on the road while walking or driving A faulty crash control system is a threat to the rights of users of the road who may be injured, dead ro maimed for life as a result of malfunction. Best option is to re examine the doubtful parts, even if it incurs additional cost and time.

Scenario 2-

People affected - Employees of company, people at large ner the ground, firefighters and their staff, environment and owner of public property ( park)

Risk - Injury, death or permanent disability to firefighters, staff, employees of the company, others. Damage to the environment and health of the all present.

Benefit - The test will enable the firefighters to know the effectivness of the system, that can be used in saving lives later.

Action - To take the test venue at an isolated place where it does minimum damage to the environment and poses least danger for others

The firefighting company should select the appropriate venue for test to pose least risk to the stkeholders.The people working in the company have the right to be safe and live in a healthy environment. The impact may be in form of proliferation of fire which may harm the occupants of the building causing death, injury or disablement. The most appropriate action is to shift the venue to an isolated place to avoid the risk caused to the staff.
