Question

Please DO NOT copy from any website, I need to be unique. "Just tell what do you think" "Just tell what do you think"

Length should be at least 2 pages preferably double-spaced.

This NOT a research paper -- I'm interested in your own personal experience in this area. "Just tell what do you think"

I have been doing this for a LONG time so I know how Psych 100 students write, so I wouldn't try pasting something from the Internet.

Also, if something doesn't feel right collage uses Turnitin.com which will let me know if your answer came from somewhere else.

In the Psych for Life at the end of Chapter 3, they discuss various strategies to control pain.

After reading this section, write on some/all of the following questions or take off anywhere you went to go as long as it pertains to the topic of pain control.

Honestly, I’m surprised that they put this topic here instead at the end of the next Chapter which covers meditation and hypnosis, both of which can play a role in reducing pain.

BTW, don’t try to BS me on those two topics since I have a reasonable amount of experience in both, as you will see.

You are not required to post about Acupuncture -- I just thought this was an interesting video, especially since so many students want to consider this as Pseudoscience

Acupuncture – I can’t tell you how many times students have used this as an example of Pseudoscience. I always said that it wasn’t and that it had a long history over the centuries in China.

Now I have a reference in the textbook to point out to them.

Before you are too quick to say that this is just BS, or whatever you want to call it, I would suggest that you might want to take a look at this British Broadcasting System (BBC) program!

It runs almost an hour but I think you might find it very "intriguing"!

Did watching this change your point of view on this topic?

Since I have accepted this procedure for a long time, it didn't change my point of view but it certainly expanded my knowledge on the subject and I lost track of how many times I just said OMG and continued to watch....:-)

Can magnets relieve pain?

Would the placebo effect tie in here?

What strategies, procedures have you tried in your life to reduce pain?

Some that worked

Some that didn’t

These are just some “suggestions” and as I said above, take this where you want to go!

P. S. You can also go to YouTube and type in "acupuncture" or "“acupuncture surgery without anesthesia” but I will warn you in advance some of it’s pretty graphic.

Good references to book/video lesson; psych vocabulary good; appropriate application to person life to book/video; appropriate application to personal life

I know some of you don't have access to chapter, its fine just make it by other information that I provide like video etc..

Explanation / Answer

Hello,

The nature of pain and its source is very crucial to determine how to mitigate its effect.

Answering your first question, and if based on personal experience, magnets did lower the intensity of the pain i experienced. Though this did not happen always, so its difficult to give an objective affirmation to this question.

Various strategies that i have tried to practise to mitigate pain, practising deep breathing and focusing on that pain has helped me relieve myself from it. it takes practise and some grit determination to overlook the sensory cues yelping at you and to simply focus on your breath. But this practise has helped me to tone down the intensity of pain.

Reiki, has helped me manifold to internalise and rather be more aware of the pain and its trigger. Being a Reiki practisioner, I have found an etheral connection with the body mind and soul triad.

Resting or simply put , respecting your body cues and taking time out has also helped me relieve myself from pain.

Again, the nature of pain and its source shall be crucial to decide the strategies that we can use to get away with it.
