Question

Please DO NOT copy from any website, I need to be unique.

Length should be at least 2 pages preferably double spced.

This NOT a research paper -- I'm interested in your own personal experience in this area.

I have been doing this for a LONG time so I know how Psych 100 students write, so I wouldn't try pasting something from the Internet.

Also, if something doesn't feel right collage uses Turnitin.com which will let me know if your answer came from somewhere else.

In the Psych for Life at the end of Chapter 3, they discuss various strategies to control pain.

After reading this section, write on some/all of the following questions or take off anywhere you went to go as long as it pertains to the topic of pain control.

Honestly, I’m surprised that they put this topic here instead at the end of the next Chapter which covers meditation and hypnosis, both of which can play a role in reducing pain.

BTW, don’t try to BS me on those two topics since I have a reasonable amount of experience in both, as you will see.

You are not required to post about Acupuncture -- I just thought this was an interesting video, especially since so many student want to considerthis as Pseudoscience

Acupuncture – I can’t tell you how many times students have used this as an example of Pseudoscience. I always said that it wasn’t and that it had a long history over the centuries in China.

Now I have a reference in the textbook to point out to them.

Before you are too quick to say that this is just BS, or whatever you want to call it, I would suggest that you might want to take a look at this British Broadcasting System (BBC) program!

It runs almost an hour but I think you might find it very "intriguing"!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3&v=DT9fXcA7x_Y

Did watching this change your point of view on this topic?

Since I have accepted this procedure for a long time, it didn't change my point of view but it certainly expanded my knowledge on the subject and I lost track of how many times I just said OMG and continued to watch....:-)

Can magnets relieve pain?

Would the placebo effect tie in here?

What strategies, procedures have you tried in your life to reduce pain?

Some that worked

Some that didn’t

These are just some “suggestions” and as I said above, take this where you want to go!

P. S. You can also go to YouTube and type in "acupuncture" or "“acupuncture surgery without anesthesia” but I will warn you in advance some of it’s pretty graphic.

Good references to book/videolesson; psych vocabulary good; appropriate application to person lifeto book/video; appropriate application to personal life

I know some of you dont have acces to chapter, its fine just make it by other information that I provide like video etc..

PAIN CONTROL

First take a look at the two contradictory words and try to figure out the meaning of the words. Pain means to be a bodily feeling of which tells you that you are suffering or in the verge of suffering. Headache, neck pain, etc. The word originates from the Latin word, ‘poena’ , which means punishment or penalty. What is control? Control is the way you manage your pain. But I should I control my pain? Why should I control something which is causing trouble to me? However you could also have certain advantages of controlling pain. Also, how can I control my pain?

Biologically, once you touch a stimuli of pain, say a hot utensil, the feeling of pain is received by the brain through the nerve fibers and then the brain sends signal to the hand that you are feeling the pain. There could be different type of pain. Such as (to name a few):

However, any kind of pain if they are not taken care of can be life threatening and cost you later. One thing remains unchanged that any kind of pain is a type suffering.

For physiological pain, the following are suggestion for controlling pain.

However it is suggestive that if the pain lasts for longer it is preferable to consult a doctor.

The following are suggestion for mental pain:

But as we were concerned in the beginning, why is it that we need to control something which is causing trouble to me? We need to understand that pain (mental pain) is like an uninvited guest in our house. So we need to prepare ourselves to deal with the pain any time it occurs so that it does not hurt me for a long time. Pain and personality are so related. Pain corrodes us from within. Hence we are concerned with it all the tie it occurs in the body. There are side effects of pain such as depression, inferiority complex, hypochondriasis, etc. So from the above theory we could conclude that to control pain we need to open minded and optimistic. If we know how to control pain, we could:

Lastly, it is suggested for others to always be open minded and give positive opinion to all those around you who are suffering in any form. Since support from family and friends can itself be healing for those suffering from pain.
