Question
Industrial psychology.
I really need helps to write about article by Tomas Jungert. (""How Colleagues Can Support Each Others Needs and Motivation: An Intervention on Employee Work Motivation").
There is short introduction of article and question please help me..
· Write a one-paragraph description of the authors’ motivational intervention and at least one theory that they used to explain why their intervention should work
· Write one paragraph about the results of the motivational intervention
· Write one paragraph about how you think this intervention could be applied in your most recent workplace (or, if you haven’t had a job, your most recent team/group)
- Organisations have flattened and increasingly rely on teamwork. Therefore, colleagues play an increasingly important role in stimulating employee motivation. Adopting Self-Determination Theory as a guiding framework, the aim of this field experiment was to examine whether team members can be trained in supporting each others basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness and, hence, increase each others need satisfaction and autonomous motivation, while decreasing controlled motivation. We delivered training to 146 participants nested in 26 participating teams and assessed basic need satisfaction and autonomous and controlled motivation before and after the intervention. Multilevel regression analyses indicated that employees in the experimental (i.e. intervention) condition had a stronger increase in need satisfaction and autonomous motivation than employees did in the control condition, and that the increase in autonomous motivation was mediated by an increase in need satisfaction. This study provides added value for theory on need satisfaction and demonstrates that a relatively brief intervention among team members may be effective in creating employee need support and increasing autonomous motivation.
Explanation / Answer
The researchers studied the effect of colleagues in motivating their co-workers in fulfilling the basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness thus gaining more internal locus of control, motivation, satisfaction thus improving their productivity. They used Self Determination Theory to identify whether the intervention of colleagues improve one’s autonomy, competence and relatedness. This theory suggests that people make rational choices on their own motivation and not by external influence.
The researchers studied 146 participants in 26 teams to study the impact of motivation before and after the intervention. They found that brief intervention significantly helps their peers regain themselves and achieve higher autonomy in doing things thus gaining better competence which leads to their satisfaction and happiness compared to the control group.
We used to work in groups for various projects and competitions in the school and college. What I learnt was the relationship and support from the team mates keeps the spirits of the team mates high whereas an unsupportive environment affects the morale of the team members and they would do things only when asked without relating it to their satisfaction and happiness.
